Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God
It chases me down, fights 'til I'm found, leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn't earn it, and I don't deserve it, still, You give Yourself away
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God

My husband and I talked about this song and how many people disagree with the implication that God is reckless. My hubby reminded me of when one of my cats went missing. I was wrecked with worry because I really loved this cat. I went off several times wandering through the woods looking for him. He said that there was no stopping me - my concern for the well being of my cat dominated my thoughts and there was nothing I wouldn’t do to rescue it. My husband said this song describing God’s love as reckless reminds him of those the times I looked for my cat. My decisions were reckless and irresponsible. All that mattered was bringing my cat back home. If a human being can love a cat that much, how much more God must love us!

Let’s face it, human relationships are a bad bet. He is all in with us, and time and time again he loses, but he KEEPS > COMING > BACK.  He is consumed with love for us. With urgency and passion He pursues us. By human standards, that’s reckless. That’s a waste.  Aren’t you thankful for his reckless love?

Cory Asbury, the author of “Reckless Love,” made a statement addressing the controversy over this song and ended it with this. “To get personal, God’s love saw me, a broken down kid with regret as deep as the ocean; my innocence and youth poured out like water. Yet, He saw fit to use me for His kingdom because He’s just that kind. I didn’t earn it and I sure as heck don’t deserve it, but He’s just that good. Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God.”
